t an awards dinner banquet during the NEWH Leadership Conference in January in Orlando at Rising Star at Universal’s CityWalk, NEWH honored Lynda Sullivan of JLF/lone meadow and David Mahood of Olive Designs with the NEWH Award of Excellence for their dedication and service to the organization. Mahood is an independent consultant and principal of Olive Designs, a manufacturer of sustainable furnishings, and a co-founder of Olive Hospitality Consulting, which provides a range of services to any company seeking to transition to more sustainable practices. He is NEWH’s vice president of sustainable hospitality and a member of the Sustainable Hospitality committee, and is a founding board member and chair of the standards committee for the Sustainable Furnishings Council. Sullivan is the executive consultant for JLF/lone meadow, a leading manufacturer of sustainable custom seating and tables, and the founder of Sullivan Hospitality Marketing Associates. Previously, she
was the director of hospitality development for Falcon Products, market development manager at Formica Corporation, and worked at Nevamar Corporation where she opened many doors for women as architectural and specifications reps. As an early member of NEWH, she has held numerous positions on the Los Angeles Founding Chapter board of directors (among them, director/vice president of membership and chapter expansion), and today, she is very active on the Sustainable Hospitality Committee (JLF has committed scholarship funds for the past five years). She received the Joyce Johnson-Woman of Excellence Award in 1993 from the Los Angeles Founding Chapter and was also the recipient of NEWH’s 1997 Woman of Year. CHAPTER South Florida The chapter and Hospitality Design (HD) magazine will host
the second annual Owners Roundtable event and dinner on April 27th at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa Golf Club in Hallandale, Florida. Moderated by Mitch Parker of the Parker Company, the event will allow attendees to get one-on-one time with hotel investors and developers. The sixth annual South Florida Chapter Scholarship Awards presentation will follow. Last year the chapter awarded close to $12,000 in scholarships. The chapter’s fundraising golf event, featuring a golf awards luncheon, will take place the following day.
Conference. Trisha Poole, Design Poole Inc., moderated the “Personal Branding” session. Lora Spran, Walt Disney World, spoke on the “Sustainable Products” session. Stacey Greene, Inland American Lodging Corporation, participated in HD magazine’s Owners Roundtable. Ted Carroll, Carroll Adams Group, along with Tom Murray, ISG, participated in the session, “Land and Sea.” And Dina Belon, Rush Hospitality, sat on the “Looking for the Next Set” session.
District crawl this spring, an Owners Roundtable in conjunction with HD magazine in June, and various CEU events. San Francisco Bay Area Last fall, the chapter held a successful Wine by Design fundraiser in Napa where 110 people enjoyed wine pairings and tastings at Ma(i)sonry, LaTour Vineyards, and St. Clement Vineyards, thanks to the sponsors: Royal Custom Designs, Hallmark Collective, HD magazine, ForrestPerkins, Maya Romanoff, Kellex, Christian Lee, B Carpet, Carnegie, JLF/lone meadow, Mark David, Restoration Hardware, Scott Lamp, Wolf Gordon, and VQC/Denise Reynolds. A second Wine by Design event is planned for this fall with wine tastings and education, property tours, and a surprise chef appearance.
Greater New York The chapter is
working on improving membership through sought-after events. The chapter has had multiple successful, well-attended Toasty Tuesday events at new hotels in New York, complete with property tours. Also planned are a nightlife panel and Meatpacking
