White is committed to bringing innovative outdoor solutions to the market, even before hotels may know they need or want them. “Some designs may be a few years ahead of the curve, but all are designed to become iconic and timeless classics,” says White. “We understand that there are younger and emerging markets, and we feel poised to design responsive and elegant solutions.” At the core of this process are two internal designers, both of whom attended top design schools, according to Temples. While they do not devote 100 percent of their time on contract designs, industrial designer Matt Scallions prefers working on hospitality products. Good thing, as the contract segment is exploding for Summer Classics. The company will end 2013 with hospitality being its single biggest market. A little over a year ago, Summer Classics was awarded the brand standard for Hilton Garden Inn, and is currently in the process of fi nalizing brand standards for Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, and is also in talks with Best Western Premiere. In response, Summer Classics is continuing to expand its contract offerings. Th is year the company introduced three collections made from a new material called Resysta, which is made from rice hulls, sea salt, and mineral oils. The material has traditionally been used to make piers, docks, and wall treatments for exteriors. In the fall, Summer Classics will launch a new tabletop program that includes 17 different designs in 11 sizes with or without umbrella holes. But Temples is most excited about the 100 percent contract outdoor fabric line that the comapny is launching this October, with all fabrics meeting or surpassing 30,000 double rubs. Summer Classics worked with well-known fabric brands Bella Dura and Sunbrella (using its new contract line), on the launch. “We don’t want a fabric that isn’t built for the worst environment,” says Temples. She stated that certain hotel companies, such as Wyndham Hotel Group, have set a benchmark of 30,000 double rubs for their brand standards, and that as a manufacturer, she has to listen to her customers and deliver what they are asking for if she wants to stay ahead of any competition. “Maybe I just haven’t heard of one,” says Temples, “But I don’t know of any other outdoor furniture business that offers a 30k double rub fabric line.” ❙❘❚ summerclassics.com Fall 2013 45 http://www.summerclassics.com
