At NeoCon 2013, Harrington College of Design launched an interactive booth that asked show attendees, "Are you 100% designer?" The booth invited people to create a color-coded "design dial," selecting a character trait from each of three pools: Professional, Lifestyle, and Creative. You might be a Collaborator/Risk Taker/Boundary Pusher. Or an Organizer/ Caffeine Addict/Problem Solver. Or even a Communicator/ Night Owl/Storyteller. Over the course of the show, the wall of blank dials filled up with hundreds of show attendees weighing in with their personal recipe for design success. Designers, it seems, are eager to find new ways to define the multi-dimensional, 24/7 roles they inhabit today. And what those roles encompass has expanded and changed significantly in just the last few years. PERSPECTIVE 27
