IIDA Perspective - Spring/Summer 2015 - 8

Contributors
The virtual playground of contributors we convened to bring
this issue to life. We asked each of our contributors: Play Ball,
PlayStation or Play Doh? (Spoiler Alert: if you ask a bunch of
design enthusiasts if they want to play with clay, the answer
is a resounding yes.)
MICHAEL ETZEL

Michael Etzel is a Lead Designer
with Siteworks Design Build in
Portland, Oregon. Previously,
he was a Senior Associate with Diller
Scofidio + Renfro, a Creative Director
with Lab @ Rockwell Group and
a Design Director at Equinox Fitness.
"I would always choose Play-Doh because the games and the outcomes
are endless."

HOLLY EAGLESON

Holly Eagleson is a Brooklyn,
NY-based writer and editor who
covers social issues, art, pop culture,
and food for a variety of outlets
including Cosmopolitan, Marie
Claire, Glamour, TakePart.com,
and HouseSeven.com.
"Play-Doh, especially the DIY kind you
can add fun scents to. Because if I'd
played with more of it as a kid
perhaps I might be an artist, designer
or maker today, not just someone one
who writes about them!"

JEN RENZI

Based in Brooklyn, Jen Renzi is
a special projects editor for Interior
Design magazine, and a freelance
contributor to the Wall Street
Journal's Off Duty section, WSJ.
Magazine, Architectural Digest,
and DuJour, and a former senior
features editor at House & Garden.
She's written a number of books,
and is currently producing a home
design how-to for the New York
School of Interior Design, to be
published by Clarkson Potter in 2016.

"Play-Doh-well, the DIY version,
anyway: I just found a recipe the uses
dry Kool-Aid for coloring, and plan to
whip up a batch with my 4-year-old."

ELLIOT FELIX

Elliot leads and founded brightspot,
a strategy consulting firm.
He fre-quently writes and speaks
about design strategy. Solving space,
operational, and organizational
problems gets him up in the morning.
Thinking about the future of work
and learning keeps him up late.
"Play-Doh, because when else can you
make spaces, tools, and spaghetti out
of the same stuff?"

ADAM GRIFF

A consultant at brightspot, Adam
helps clients solve operational
challenges, design business models,
and enable organizational change.
He strives to create simple and
intuitive answers to complex
questions. When not helping
organizations change the world,
he enjoys writing and teaching his
kids how to surf.
"Play Ball. Because every creative act
needs constraints. What's a canvas
but a playing field?"

LAUREN ADAMS

Lauren Adams is the Director
of Strategy for the Lifestyle Sector
at Gensler New York. She was
previously the Director of Strategy
for the LAB at Rockwell Group.
Lauren holds an MS in Urban
Planning from Columbia University
and a BA in Journalism from NYU.
She began her design career in
advertising and environmental
graphic design.
"Play-Doh! It's a time machine
to childhood."
