Passport - (Page P11) Destination Diary 1,125-room Estrel Hotel, the multifunctional Estrel Convention Center, and superstar performances at the Estrel Festival Center. Or for a bird’s eye view of the city, the Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz features the highest conference rooms in all of Europe from their perch on the 37th floor, providing unparalleled views of the city and a convenient location just two minutes from the Berlin Congress Center. Planners looking to make a splash won’t want to miss a new meeting site introduced last spring by Hamburg’s Mercure Hamburg City. Called KAI 10: The Floating Experience, the waterborne venue was designed specifically for meetings and events, with options that include two meeting rooms, a lounge, a deck, and an underwater space designed for receptions. Altogether, KAI 10 can accommodate 350 people. Numerous other cities throughout Germany attract meetings and incentives with their unique highlights, such as the quintessential Bavarian city Munich, the romantic Heidelberg, and Cologne with its massive Gothic cathedral. Europe Denmark A Meeting of Modern Chic and Tradition From northern Germany, it’s a very short flight to Denmark, where the chic capital city Copenhagen offers traditional pastimes and modern amenities. It’s also a city on the move, with several new hotels just opened or planned, including the Radisson SAS Scandinavia, already the largest hotel in Denmark, which has proposed the addition of 460 guest rooms to complement the existing 542 rooms and expanded meeting facilities, currently accommodating up to 3,000. Also on tap is the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers, slated to open late this year as one of the city’s largest hotels while another project calls for a themed 400-room Tivoli Hotel to debut in 2010 in conjunction with the Tivoli Congress Center Downtown Copenhagen, which will include a conference center for 2,500. Both will be right outside the famed Tivoli Gardens, the country’s most visited tourist attraction with its thousands of blooming flowers, vintage and modern amusement rides, ornate Eastern-styled buildings, pantomimes and other performing artists ranging from the on-site orchestras to top names in music, 38 restaurants and cafés, and more. There are also several sites available for meetings or special events, including the H.C. Andersen Castle for fairytale special events, and the Tivoli Concert Hall and the Glass Hall for convention sessions, awards ceremonies, and more.
