That was of paramount importance at December’s Annual General Meeting at the Site Global Conference 2008 in Montreux, Switzerland, as Site officially launched its new strategic vision, brand, and communications platform to the 475 attendees. As part of the rebranding, the organization is changing its name Site’s New Vision W from the Society of Incentive & Travel Executives (SITE) to Site. “We’ve just celebrated our 35th anniversary, so we hired Fleishman-Hillard, a professional branding firm, to take a look at our organization,” says Site CEO Brenda Anderson. “They interviewed people all over the globe both inside and outside of Site to find out what the perception of Site’s role is in the business community.” The feedback was that Site was viewed as a strategic organization that offered the B2B community a global network dedicated to achieving business results through motivational experiences. “Site began 35 years ago as an organization dedicated to incentive travel, and our name reflected that,” says he 2008 EIBTM in Barcelona was the “biggest ever,” confirmed Paul Kennedy, group exhibition director for Reed Travel Exhibitions Meetings and Incentive Events. Unaudited figures showed that the event, held December 24, attracted a record number of hosted buyers—3,711, up 12 percent on the previous year. Total attendance was expected to top the 8,000 mark, up 6 percent over 2007, and 51,000 pre-scheduled meetings were organized during the three day event, up over 11,000. “The record figures show not only how resilient the meetings market is in challenging times but the reputation EIBTM has as the place to do business,” says Kennedy. “It certainly seemed that more actual business was being transacted on the show floor than ever before.” At the show, Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) announced a major global partnership with Meeting Professionals International (MPI). MPI will provide education at all of RTE’s meetings and incentive events (EIBTM in Barcelona, GIBTM in Abu Dhabi, CIBTM in Beijing, and AIBTM in Baltimore). —Vincent Alonzo continued on page 17 14 I SM I January 2009 I
