Here comes the sun M emphis has plenty to offer in the way of more recent history—specifically music history. The city, a haven for blues musicians, also is the hometown of Sun Records, an outfit established in 1950 by Sam Phillips that went on to produce music from then-rising stars such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, and Carl Perkins. The studio, which became a national historic landmark in 2003, remains a popular tourist draw. It also offers meeting attendees a unique teambuilding experience, according to Kevin Brewer, the chief operating officer of Destination King, a destination marketing company based in Memphis. “They can bring in songwriters and session musicians and what it turns into is this great jam session where business colleagues work together to come up with songs about their companies or business goals or whatever they want,” says Brewer. “It’s a great experience in an amazing, historic setting.” square feet, which can be configured to suit planners’ needs. The city has a unique blend of elegance and an aging patina that lends a sense of authenticity to any occasion.” And celebrating more recent history is The King & Prince Beach & Golf Resort. The legendary seaside property, which brushes up against the Atlantic Ocean on St. Simons Island, Georgia, opened as a dance club in 1935 and today is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a member of the Historic Hotels of America.
