Special Events Hargrove, an institution in the Washington DC event-planning industry, sets the stage for the inauguration. A lthough President Barack Obama’s rallying cry may have been change in Washington, when it came to selecting a special events company to help with the inaugural festivities, consistency was key. Hargrove, an event, trade show, and custom exhibit company based in Lanham, MD, has been involved with inauguration ceremonies since 1949. It was then that the now 80- year-old Earl Hargrove Jr. and his father designed “eight or nine” floats for President Harry Truman. Last spring, Hargrove sold the company to his daughter, Carla, and his son-in-law, Tim McGill. Though the couple now runs the show, Hargrove designed this year’s parade floats.
