ESSENTIALS SEASONS The seasons are reversed south of the equator, which means that South Africa’s winter runs from May to July, when the temperature tends to move between 40 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer, peak season for safaris, runs from November through March, with a temperature range from the 60s to the mid-90s Fahrenheit at mid-day in some areas. Travelers from the U.S. and Canada do not need any vaccinations to enter South Africa. For some areas, including Kruger National Park, malaria preventive medication is recommended (there is no malaria in other areas, including Madikwe Game Reserve).
