Training Magazine - October 2007 - (Page 9) Partnerships&Alliances Tablets for Talent WITH HEDGE FUNDS SURGING, and the stock market (for the moment) booming, a good time for financial advisers has gotten even better for those employed by Edward Jones. In July, the company rolled out tablet personal computers (PCs) to advisors based on a successful pilot program. The tablet PC, a small laptop computer, is issued to all new Jones brokers for the 13 months following their “can sell” dates, Director of Training Kevin Alm reports. The company says the devices will be particularly handy for financial advisors studying for licensing exams, and in day-to-day selling, Alm notes, “as a way to capture prospect information and save themselves hours of work.” In the past, Jones’ brokers-to-be studying for licensing exams would be given two 4-inch-thick binders to wade through. But—lucky for them—all that cumbersome information now is tucked tidily into the tablets. The company has high hopes for the program based on its 2005 pilot. One hundred percent of 31 employees using the tablet PCs passed the Series 7 financial advisor licensing exam compared to the 85 to 90 percent pass rate the old way. recently was head of UK channels and alliances for MRO Software.
