Technical Services - Spring 2008 - (Page 23) Ethics OpenLine Available he OpenLine offers employees the opportunity to raise ethical issues and report unethical behavior and activities in the workplace. Calls to the OpenLine fall into three categories: • Category 1 – Inquiries requesting information or advice regarding ethics and business conduct • Category 2 – Workplace issues referred to Human Resources (HR) for resolution • Category 3 – Allegations of business conduct violations It is the practice of the TS sector Ethics Department to maintain the confidentiality of all issues to the greatest extent possible. The Ethics Office responds to every complaint and initiates an investigation where appropriate. Individuals who initiate OpenLine complaints are advised when the investigations into their complaints are closed. To protect the privacy of individuals, however, the company does not notify callers whether their complaint had merit or whether any disciplinary action may occur as a result. The TS Ethics Office also periodically issues information on the sector’s OpenLine activities to inform employees of the company’s responses to OpenLine calls and to demonstrate the company’s commitment to addressing all claims of unethical conduct. In the first quarter of 2008, the sector received 39 OpenLine calls, and 87 percent of those calls were referred to HR. Of the calls that were investigated by the sector Ethics Office, an estimated 44 percent were found to involve behavior that could be deemed a violation of the company’s values. To report any ethical concerns or to seek advice on business conduct, please speak with your manager, your business conduct officer or contact the OpenLine, which is available 24 hours each day at: (800) 655-4099 or https://www.compliance-helpline.com/northgrum.jsp. The management at the DLDC has been singled out twice for recognition by employees who are members of the Guard or Reserve who have deployed in support of combat operations. Last year, Northrop Grumman was named an ESGR employer of the year in the state of Kansas (one of six employers honored) for support to deployed reserve component soldiers. “The entire management at DLDC gets involved to make sure the deployed employees and their families get the support they need,” said Doug Tystad, senior program manager at Fort Leavenworth. TS At a recent ceremony, Lt. Col. William K. Bentley, USMC Reserve, representing the Kansas Committee for ESGR, presented the Patriot Award to Robert Mayhew and John Blasser (pictured far right) of TS.
