Technical Services - Spring 2008 - (Page 5) lcoe 2 For Fire Scout operations, TS provides maintenance and training development support. Fire Scout is currently flying at Webster Field outside of Patuxent River, Md., for Navy testing. TS provides support to the Global Hawk program at Beale Air Force Base in California in several areas. A Courseware Development team develops and builds all academic, simulator and computer-based training for Global Hawk pilots and sensor operators. Northrop Grumman instructor pilots provide approximately 80 percent of all academic and simulator training for Global Hawk Initial Qualification students. Currently, TS is training 36 student pilots per year with that number expected to increase to 60 by 2010. TS instructor sensor operators provide approximately 90 percent of all academic training for newly assigned Air Force students, currently training 24 per year. Additionally, TS provides approximately 70 percent of all flight training for these students. A Northrop Grumman team, composed of TS team members, builds 100 percent of all Global Hawk mission plans used for all training and exercise support flights. These mission planners have also provided the sole support for planning and executing over 1,200 missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. TS also has field service representatives who provide expertise for any Global Hawk air vehicle issues that may arise. TS will begin supporting Global Hawk forward operating locations for U.S. Air Force missions in Guam and Germany as early as mid-2009, providing UAV maintenance through field support teams. Additionally, TS will provide mission planning and sensor operator support to Global Hawk operations at Grand Forks, N.D., in 2010. At Naval Air Station Patuxent River, the TS Global Hawk Maritime Demonstration team operates and maintains two Global Hawk aircraft that are flown regularly in support of the development of CONOPS (Concept of Operations) and TTPs (Tactics, Techniques and Procedures) for risk reduction for future Navy operations. A highly skilled team of TS engineers living in Germany also work with their EADS counterparts to ensure the success of our combined Euro Hawk contract with the German government. Initially the Euro Hawk aircraft will fly a SIGINT (signals intelligence) payload with subsequent plans for other payloads; they are currently at the Critical Design Review point in their schedule.
