SS systems suppOrt TS’ Army Battle Command Systems at Fort Bliss Offer Valuable Training Services to Soldiers Bound for Deployment T echnical Services instructors at Fort Bliss, Texas, are preparing soldiers for combat in Iraq and Afghanistan using a sophisticated computer system. Named Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below (FBCB2), the system, which consists of a rugged laptop computer equipped with Global Positioning System capability, displays advanced awareness and location data on a digital map, enabling our military to quickly locate friendly units, enemy personnel and various battlefield hazards as a situation develops. 2 1 “The Army has deployed the FBCB2 system in most tactical vehicles in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said TS project manager Douglas McNeese. “Our instructors teach soldiers and airmen how to operate it. Knowing how to operate it greatly enhances our soldiers’ combat effectiveness and survivability.” The Fort Bliss Technical Services FBCB2 team provides a course of instruction on the FBCB2 that lasts 40 hours over a period of four to five days. TS team members instruct 40 to 60 students every week. The vast majority of these students are Reservists and National Guardsmen temporarily assigned to Fort Bliss while mobilizing for service.
