Supporting them were Technical Services personnel who performed a variety of assignments, including range maintenance, testing, ammunition handling, safety instruction, and training exercise management. TS annually supports more than 50,000 active duty and reserve component soldiers on 57 various ranges at Fort Hood. 1 T S T his past June, several U.S. Army contingents maximized the considerable training capa- 1 2 Tom Burger, TS range maintenance specialist, performs tests and adjustments on a Moving Armored Target (MAT) vehicle at Crittenberger Multipurpose Range Complex at Fort Hood, Texas, in support of an Aviation Door Gunnery exercise. MATs are either radio-controlled or controlled through hardwired data lines from the control tower to the target. This range has a combination of MATs. TS team member James Barcroft hooks up batteries to a charging cart at Fort Hood’s Range Operations Battery Maintenance Facility. Barcroft issues and maintains approximately 500 lead acid batteries. As many as 110 batteries enter and exit the facility each day. TS team member Jerry Bolton, a small engine mechanic, conducts a 500-hour service on a Honda 3000 model generator. Bolton has serviced and repaired hundreds of generators, pumps and other pieces of equipment used to target operations. U.S. Army M1A2 tanks and their crews from the 1st Cavalry Division move out at the Boresight Line at Northrop Grumman Technical Services Blackwell Multi-Use Range at Fort Hood. The range hosted the unit for their Tank Crew Qualification Tables upon the unit’s return from Iraq.
