Launched in May 2005, the program has contacted more than 500 injured service members and is actively working with more than 100 job-ready individuals and others awaiting medical release from the military. Winner of the U.S. Secretary of Labor’s New Freedom Initiative Award and 2008 nominee for the California Employer Advisory Committee Employer of the Year, Operation IMPACT has helped many wounded warriors return to civilian life and obtain employment. If an injured service member is unable to work due to the severity of his/her injuries, Operation IMPACT works with the family’s primary wage earner to identify career opportunities within Northrop Grumman. According to Duane Hardesty, who serves as the program’s outreach director, Operation IMPACT is the only program of its kind in the country. Since the program’s inception, 36 Northrop Grumman job offers have been extended, of which 30 were accepted; currently Technical Services has placed six candidates. Hardesty encourages all capture and proposal managers to leverage the program’s outstanding reputation and the Freedom Award in all TS proposals, but more importantly, place qualified soldiers transitioning from the military into available positions throughout the sector. T S 1 2 Northrop Grumman TS Sponsors Air Force Vanguard Award t a recent award’s reception, sponsored by Technical Services, U.S. Air Force Technical Sgt. Clinton J. Beck was honored with this year’s Vanguard Award, bestowed by the Air Force’s Noncommissioned Officers Association. Glenn Lebak of Human Resources, representing TS at the reception, presented Beck with the Vanguard Award. Beck distinguished himself as a pararescueman and was living testimony to the pararescue motto – “that others may live” – when he put his life on the line to rescue and provide lifesaving medical attention to two Afghan girls who had been injured during a firefight between U.S. forces and the Taliban. With an intense firefight ongoing, Beck ignored the risk of personal injury and sprinted across the battlefield to a 14-year-old Afghan girl who’d been shot and was bleeding heavily.
