In early 2008, LCMMC began refurbishment work on a line of aircraft doors in support of the E-2C Hawkeye program for Northrop Grumman’s Integrated Systems (IS) sector. leadership expects that this work will expand to encompass other E-2C program components. TS The work began with an initial shipment of 15 main landing gear doors. The first six of these doors were recently completed on schedule and under cost, source inspected and delivered to the customer in Norfolk, Va. Work on the remaining nine doors is in progress at LCMMC and on schedule to meet customer delivery requirements. Work on a follow-on set of doors is being coordinated by IS with the Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP) for repairs at Lake Charles and should be received within the next few weeks. LCMMC inspects Hawkeye doors for wear, disassembles them, completes repairs and repaints them. Completed doors are then shipped to the Material Operations Service Center at IS in Melbourne, Fla., for final customer acceptance before returning to Navy inventory. NAVICP’s mission is to provide Navy, Marine Corps, Joint and Allied Forces program and supply support for the weapons systems that keep U.S. naval forces mission-ready. LCMMC An E-2C Hawkeye descends for landing. In addition to the U.S. Navy, Egypt, France, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and Taiwan have all flown the aircraft. Since the E-2C program began in 1968, the aircraft has undergone five significant system upgrades, with other improvements interspersed along the way. Daloris Guillory, aircraft painter at the Lake Charles Maintenance and Modification Center, removes paint on the E-2C main landing gear doors during the stripping process. 8 Technical Services Magazine • Summer 2008
