Navy’s Maritime Demonstration unmanned aircraft, returned July 21 to its home station at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md. The aircraft, operated and maintained by Technical Services staff, was on assignment to Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, where it flew 216.8 mission hours. Flight time included 23 hours collecting crucial images for California firefighting officials, as well as two transatlantic trips. A fter a 55-day mission that included assisting firefighting efforts in California, the At Patuxent River, Technical Services conducts mission planning, flight operations and complete maintenance on the aircraft. TS personnel are also responsible for the aircraft subsystem, pilot and sensor operator training, ground shelter maintenance and onsite logistics support for the two RQ-4A Block 10 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft systems.
