Formerly the Nevada Proving Grounds, NTS is located in Nye County about 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas and covers approximately 1,375 square miles. Since the 1992 moratorium on nuclear testing, NTS has diversified into many other programs such as hazardous chemical spill testing, emergency response training, conventional weapons testing, waste management and environmental technology studies. TS Sector President Jim Cameron and NTS President and General Manager Stephen Younger hosted the visit. Since Technical Services won the contract in 2006, the team has made many process improvements at the site and has achieved many accomplishments. Changes include implementation of a formal Earned Value Management certification program to train cost account managers in financial management best practices and the modernization of Building B-3 at the site to more energy efficient standards, creating a 17.5 percent improvement in energy-usage optimization. In addition, NTS management have instituted a number of processes and procedures to heighten safety standards and security practices.
