Fort Hood Team Prepares Warfighters for Combat 1 very day the bullets are flying—down range—for TS team members at Fort Hood, Texas, and that’s just the way they like things. They support more than 50,000 active duty and reserve component soldiers on 57 various ranges. In 2007, the team trained 56,402 U.S. Army soldiers on weapon firing on their large specialty small-arms training range, Pilot Knob Rifle Zero (PKRZ). This effort alone generated 1.4 million spent rounds of ammunition. “We support range operations seven days a week,” said Dorena Plamondon, range complex supervisor of PKRZ at Fort Hood. “The unique aspect of our operation is that we provide full-spectrum range support—support that’s traditionally provided by military units themselves.” Soldiers in training at Fort Hood, Texas, take aim from concrete firing points at Black Gap Rifle Charlie range, another range supported by the TS team. TS team members Richard Whitehead (left) and Daniel Spry prepare to instruct soldiers on proper safety protocol for PKRZ. E 2 1 2 The TS team provides an officer-in-charge function and range safety officer for all firing lines. They conduct safety briefings and instruct soldiers on necessary firing line steps required for weapon qualification. In addition, TS personnel obtain ammunition from the Fort Hood Ammunition Supply Point, issue ammunition to soldiers and take inventory upon completion of training exercises to ensure ammunition is accounted for. This work involves TS team members who are trained and certified in ammunition handling, transportation and control. TS orthrop Grumman’s Enterprise Operations team along with Technical Services recently launched the eSupport@Technical Services Web site, providing Northrop Grumman Global Network (NGGN) users with single, Web-based portal access to numerous IT support services. eSupport encompasses a wide range of electronic self-service tools from a variety of sources, enabling users to research and resolve common computing issues and problems via the Web. Users can access eSupport by going to http://esupport.northgrum. com or by simply typing “help” in the Internet Explorer address bar within the NGGN. At eSupport, users will find numerous help desk tools, including: • Troubleshooting • End-user knowledge base/FAQs documents • Password reset tools • Live chat/instant messaging • Alerts/status The Technical Services team designed the eSupport portal as well as the artwork and executed the programming utilizing HTML, .asp, and Java Script. In addition, the design team created a series of end-user knowledge articles, making available more than 250 N TS Team the Driving Force Behind eSupport reference articles when the eSupport portal was first rolled out to the Information Technology sector on July 11, 2006. eSupport incorporates SupportSoft’s features, enabling clients to use self-healing technology, thus reducing the need for help desk calls and desk-side support visits. It also enables Northrop Grumman to provide quicker resolution for user problems requiring the assistance of a help desk agent. Northrop Grumman has now deployed the eSupport capability to all of its sectors and several external customers. The Technical Services team will be responsible for implementation of additional enhancements as well as ongoing support of the portal.
