Technical Services - Winter 2008 - (Page 17) systems suppOrt SS TS Teams Recognized with Chairman’s Award for Excellence T echnical Services provides a variety of support services to warfighters at Fort Irwin, Calif. Through the Logistics Support Services Project (LSSP), TS trains between 60,000 and 80,000 U.S. Armed Forces personnel at the National Training Center (NTC) prior to their deployment to overseas locations in the Middle East and other theaters of operation. Maintaining the equipment used by rotational combat brigades training at NTC is a daunting challenge facing the TS Fort Irwin team. “These rotational brigades have more than 3,400 pieces of equipment pre-positioned here for deployment purposes,” said David Booze, TS Fort Irwin project manager. For their outstanding management of LSSP the Fort Irwin team was recently selected for , Northrop Grumman’s Chairman’s Award for Excellence, the highest company honor for program performance. In choosing Fort Irwin, Northrop Grumman corporate cited the LSSP team for “demonstrated adaptability, flexibility and responsiveness in meeting structural and doctrinal changes to support a more mobile, lethal U.S. Army dedicated to combating global terrorism.” TS 1 2 Nevada Test Site Team Wins Chairman’s Award for Excellence hey broke all-new ground with entry into the Department of Energy (DOE), establishing Northrop Grumman as a major competitor in the DOE market space. They were up against an established competitor, yet achieved a remarkable outcome of winning a five-year $2.5 billion contract to provide management services for the Nevada Test Site (NTS), our nation’s premier testing ground. Keys to Technical Services’ winning proposal were the establishment of a superior management team, led by Stephen Younger, and the offering of expanded customer services and vision for the site. NTS is managed by the TS-led National Security Technologies, LLC (NSTec) joint venture. Citing the team’s strong partnership with industry partners and the corporate office, technical proficiency in executing customer deliverables and commitment to quality, operational excellence, and safety, as well as other critical considerations, corporate awarded the team the Chairman’s Award for Excellence for 2007. Local National Training Center units refuel their vehicles at the Fort Irwin retail site. The TS-managed Logistics Support Services Project operates both a petroleum bulk tank farm and two separate fuel retail points at Fort Irwin. Annually, the project receives, stores and issues 4.6 million gallons of fuel at the NTC and Fort Irwin in support of the permanently stationed organizations and rotational combat brigades and other military services training at the NTC. TS team member Sun Harmon repairs a zipper at the Central Issue Facility (CIF). CIF supports 4 2 nearly 10,500 soldiers permanently and temporarily stationed at the NTC and Fort Irwin with clothing and equipment used in daily tactical training, as well as equipment required for deployment to hostile theaters of operation. The CIF also repairs clothing and equipment and provides sewing services to attach uniform patches and nametags.
