Technical Services - Winter 2008 - (Page 9) lcoe FSE Warner Robins Achieves CMMI Level 3 Rating F leet Sustaining Engineering (FSE), Warner Robins Avionics Engineering Sustainment Center (WRAESC) in Georgia, recently earned a Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 3 rating for software and systems engineering. The unit was rated in 18 process areas within three categories of the CMMI for Development discipline. 1 CMMI is an internationally recognized process improvement approach established by the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. “To be CMMI Level 3 certified means that we are following defined processes and the industry’s best standard practices to develop top-quality software products for our customer,” said Ron Yaun, chairman of the Software Engineering Process Group at WRAESC. “Achieving this was a total team effort,” said Keith Yeager, site manager at WRAESC. “WRAESC had only one minor discrepancy in more than 1,000 practices evaluated,” said Larry Wingate, director for FSE. “This, along with the evaluation’s Level 3 rating, shows that the unit did an absolutely outstanding job and brings a critical discriminator for our future pursuits.” WRAESC’s primary operations include development of software programs and support of associated equipment for operational and test procedures on aircraft such as the U.S. Air Force’s F-15, B-1 and C-130 aircraft and the E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS). One area of primary focus is the integration and test suite in support of operational flight programs for the Special Operations Forces AC-130H/U, MC-130E/H, MH-53J/M, EC-130E and MH-60G aircraft.
