Education Jackson County has four public school districts and several private and parochial schools. The school systems are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Mississippi Accrediting Commission. Presently, all districts maintain a high percentage of Level 5 schools, offer increased challenging curriculum through Mississippi Scholars, a program designed by the Mississippi Economic Council, and support programs that reduce drop-out rates like Pascagoula’s “Destination Graduation.” At the heart of Jackson County’s education excellence is the experience and dedication of its teachers and school administration staff. Many teachers earn federal, state and county grants for special projects that enhance their ability to keep abreast of innovative teaching concepts. MGCCC and USM have numerous partnerships with local industries to provide career advancement and future learning skills for their employees.
