A strong faith exists throughout the county with active congregations including: Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, Seven Day Adventists, Apostolic, Assembly of God, Church of Christ, Christian, Lutheran, Episcopal, Holiness, Independent, Interdenominational, Jehovah’s Witness, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Church of God, Latter Day Saints and Nazarene. The Jackson County Baptist Association and Minister’s Alliance have strong foundations for caring for others and participating in outreach efforts. The Jackson County Historical and Genealogy Society will help you locate historic churches and cemeteries located in the county. Jackson County has an abundance of non-profit organizations that meet the community needs. The United Way of Jackson and George Counties, headquartered in Pascagoula, funds more than 25 agencies designed to assess and meet needs. The agency is the catalyst for improving the lives of Jackson and George Countians. Other agencies include: Salvation Army, Bacot-McCarty Foundation, Home of Grace, Our Daily Bread, Lord’s My Help, American Red Cross, Jackson County Civic Action and Head Start, CANDY, Women’s and Children’s Domestic Violence Center, Singing River Mental Health and Substance Abuse Center, Teen Challenge and Rebuild Jackson County. Jackson County is a great place to volunteer. It is also a great place to retire. Jackson County welcomes new citizens and strives to provide them with a network of opportunities. A person can select from an assortment of single or multi-family housing units or a unit from a personal care home. Several 55 and over complexes are readily available. Three fully skilled nursing homes offer an assortment of services. Senior citizens can participate with each city’s senior program. They make extended trips, have daily recreation programs and take advantage of the latest health and wellness opportunities.
