Transportation & Communication Rail, highway, water and air are all important links to Jackson County’s impressive transportation and communications network. The Port of Pascagoula ranks as one of the top 20 ports in the United States for foreign cargo, and it has been extremely instrumental in the development of Jackson County through its harbors at Bayou Casotte and the Pascagoula River. Industries shipping through the Port will find covered storage and numerous open areas near the Port’s berthing docks. CSX and the Mississippi Export RR offer rail service along the main tracks and spurs feeding their services to plants located near the East and West Harbors. The Port of Pascagoula welcomes over 600 cargo vessels annually. Gulf Coast Cold Storage exports refrigerated cargo to many global markets. The Port of Pascagoula’s strategic location, approximately 13 miles from the Gulf Shipping Lanes, opens Jackson County to a global network of trade. The harbor depths of 38 and 42 feet are an attractive incentive to plant location. The Jackson County Port Authority operates an industrial water plant for area industries. Jackson County owns Trent Lott International Airport which provides air service for corporate and private charter planes. Hangar space is available for airplane storage. For the flying enthusiasts, lessons are available at the Ocean Springs Airport, a general aviation facility as well. Major airline service is accessible from Biloxi/Gulfport, Mississippi and Mobile, Alabama located 39 miles from Jackson County. Ocean Springs is home to AT&T’s Wireless Mobility Call Center. Cellular and landline service is readily available within the county, and it is enhanced by strategically placed communication towers.
