Jackson County has a proud history of talented artists and craftsmen with the late Walter I. Anderson as one of the most renowned. The Walter Anderson Museum, located in Ocean Springs, is a continuing testament to the genius of his work. Ocean Springs also houses a mural collection featuring some of the artist’s best work. Art studios dot the promenade along Ocean Springs’ Main Street. The Peter Anderson Music, Art and Cultural Festival finds its home in downtown Ocean Springs the first weekend in November. If you like the wonders of nature, and pride yourself in being a history buff, visit the Mississippi Audubon Center in Moss Point. The center is located on the scenic Pascagoula River. Take a ride on the river with one of the eco-tourism boat operators and while visiting the river, bring your bird watching equipment which will enable you to identify countless species traveling through Jackson County in their flight pattern to South America. Learn more about Jackson County’s “Legend of the Singing River,” which tells the story of how the Pascagoula Indians (a docile tribe) walked hand-in-hand into the river rather than face the fierce war-like Biloxi Tribe in a battle over the Prince and Princess.
