Founded in 1885 as the nations first land-grant university, MSU was the first institution of higher learning in the United States to teach scientific agriculture. With well over 4,000 faculty and academic staff and a total enrollment surpassing 43,000; MSU is the largest single campus student body of any Michigan university and among the largest in the country. The curriculum includes more than 200 programs of undergraduate and graduate studies in 14 degree granting colleges and Michigan State University – Detroit School of Law. In athletics, varsity squads compete in 13 intercollegiate sports in a host of recognizable facilities including Spartan Stadium, the Jack Breslin Student Events Center, Munn Ice Arena, Jenison Field House and Kobs and Old College fields. The Jack Breslin Student Events Center also hosts special events such as commencements, concerts, circuses, ice shows, banquets, conventions and trade shows. Since opening in 1982 and preparing for a major addition and enhancement in 2008, The Wharton Center for Performing Arts with two theaters presents a variety of cultural events and productions. It begins with quality childcare and pre kindergarten. Next, we have outstanding school districts for K-12 both public and parochial including programs for special needs students. Follow that with world class advanced learning at colleges and universities that offer the best of the Big Ten and our local communities.
