FEDERAL PREMIUM'S .224 VALKYRIE The new .224 Valkyrie cartridge is based on a .30 Rem./6.8 SPC case necked down to .224 caliber. It's designed to produce flat trajectories, match-grade accuracy and supersonic velocities beyond 1300 yards downrange. Testing conducted by Federal Premium engineers using 24-inch test barrels with a 1:7 twist revealed the .224 Valkyrie offers up to 128 inches less drop and 69 inches less wind drift (with a 10 mph crosswind) at 1000 yards than other MSR 15 rounds. The new cartridge also offers significant advantages in velocity and energy. WWII VICTORY AMMO This year marks the 75th Anniversary of World War II and to honor those firearms of old, Winchester has some new throwback ammunition. Specially packaged in commemorative collector's cartons and wood boxes, the ammo will also include special head stamps and will be available through 2019. The new line of old ammo is loaded to WWII specs, available in .30-06, .30 Carbine, .45 ACP and 12-gauge brass shells. END OF THE BROWNING HI-POWER HANDGUN Last month, Browning announced its Hi-Power pistols are no longer in production. "Current dealer inventories will be the last available from Browning for the foreseeable future," the website explains. Supply is scarce, however, because availability to dealers ended sometime in 2017. New Mark IIIs or Standards are easiest to find because they were the last models to come out of the factory. Modifications to some variants included ambidextrous safety, spurred hammer and double-action versions. A 9mm chambering is most common, but it was also made in .40 S&W. SSUSA.ORG | MARCH 2018 9
