The slate of 2008 officers includes new chairman of the board and chairman of the executive committee, Myron E. Ullman III, chairman, president and CEO of JCPenney. The following executives will serve two-year terms on the board: Philip L. Francis, chairman and CEO of PetSmart (first vice chairman of the board, chairman of the finance committee and treasurer); Stephen I. Sadove, chairman and CEO of Saks (second vice chairman); and Kip Tindell, chairman and CEO of The Container Store (chairman of the awards and nomination committee). NRF selected two other directors — Mindy F. Grossman, president and CEO of Myron E. Ullman HSN and Robert B. Johnston, president of Hudson’s Bay Co. — to serve threeyear terms. Re-elected to the Associate Member Advisory Council were Jan deJong, worldwide global industry manager of retail for Microsoft, and Walter F. Loeb, president of Loeb Associates. & WHO WHAT WHEN president of loss prevention, human resources and administration for Beall’s. The third-annual Customers’ Choice Awards, sponsored by the NRF Foundation and American ExElaine Rubin press, were also announced at Retail’s BIG Show. In a survey conducted by BIGResearch, more than 8,800 consumers were asked to name the retailer that “consistently delivers the best customer service” across all retail formats and channels. The top 10, in order, were L.L. Bean, Zappos.com, Amazon.com, Overstock.com, Blair, Lands’ End, Coldwater Creek, Nordstrom, Lane Bryant and Newegg.com. Fair Factories Update THE FAIR FACTORIES Clearinghouse has announced its newest members: Levi Strauss and Co., Nike, Nordstrom and Abercrombie & Fitch. A not-for-profit organization founded in 2005 by NRF, The Retail Council of Canada, Reebok International and World Monitors, Fair Factories Clearinghouse (FFC) is a collaborative industry effort working to improve the standardization of factory social compliance audits through the use of a global management system that tracks workplace conditions. The platform allows for the sharing of audit information among its members and facilitates the exchange of factory social compliance audits, eliminates the duplication of audits and advances and promotes education and knowledge. Additional members of FFC include more than 13,000 factories of retailers like adidas Group, L.L. Bean, Timberland and VF, as well as founding members Macy’s Merchandising Group, Hudson’s Bay Co., Mark’s Work Wearhouse and The Wet Seal. For more information, visit www.fairfactories.org. WWW.STORES.ORG And the Winners Are… NRF’S Annual Retail Industry Luncheon (ARIL) acknowledges and honors leading retailers for their achievements, innovation and commitment to the industry. Receiving the Gold Medal this year was Terry J. Lundgren, chairman, president and CEO of Macy’s. Lundgren was honored for his accomplishments and commitment to the retail industry. John L. Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops, was named Retail Innovator of the Year for his unique, trendsetting business implementation, and Hong Kong-based Lane Crawford was named the International Retailer of the Year. Also announced at ARIL – but presented at NRF’s board meeting — were the winners of the Silver Plaque: Elaine Rubin, president of Ekrubin, who had served as chairman of Shop.org for the past eight years, and Dan J.
