Take Your Laundry Online Most women are still awaiting the development of technology that will collect, sort and wash the laundry, then fold it neatly into piles. While that’s in the works (somewhere, we hope), technology is being applied to the process of doing laundry that allows college students to manage the washing of their jeans and sweatshirts over the Internet. USA Technologies has nearly 7,000 washers and dryers connected to the eSuds system in more than 700 laundry rooms in colleges, universities and multi-family communities. Using eSuds, students can check the availability of washers and dryers in laundry rooms and pay for the wash and dry cycles with their student ID, or debit or credit cards. Students automatically receive an email, page or wireless message when the wash and dry cycles are complete. The program, which began on college campuses, has now been expanded to multi-housing and apartment complexes and is also quickly growing in popularity. Dubbed the eSuds Credit laundry service, this iteration offers users the chance to link debit and/or credit payments to the system. eSuds also enhances the efficiency of laundry rooms by allowing operators to track usage and sales by machine with the click of a mouse. The service provides operators with online reports of usage and daily diagnostic reports. CORRECTION: In the February issue of STORES (Brand Management, page 42), the name of Elie Tahari director of business applications Nihad Aytaman was misspelled.
