Stores Magazine - October 2007 - (Page 120) INSIDE TRACK NRFnews New Real Estate Study THE RISING COSTS of securing real estate, store openings, remodels and renewal decisions are affecting retailers and having a great impact on their bottom lines. To better understand the influence of these costs, NRF commissioned AMR Research to conduct the inaugural Real Estate Life Cycle: Trends and Analysis study. Retailers across North America were surveyed in the areas of process and technology maturity regarding market planning, site selection, new store openings, facilities management and asset management. The results of the survey, which will be released mid-October, will share how retailers are managing these real estate challenges. The survey, underwritten by KSA and Accruent, is broken down into five sections – Market Planning, Real Estate Site Selection, Project Management, Real Estate and Lease Administration and Facilities Management — and will identify opportunities for retailers to best improve business strategies impacting revenue and expense. Retailers interested in reviewing the study results may contact Rachel Tolley, NRF director of retail finance and accounting, at tolleyr@nrf.com. & WHO WHAT WHEN The site, which is powered by Mall Networks, will feature holiday-specific promotions from more than 500 retailers. Proceeds from purchases made through the site contribute to the Ray Greenly Scholarship Fund, which supports students pursuing careers in e-commerce. In its first two months last year, CyberMonday.com raised more than $105,000 for the fund. Shop.org will hold its second-annual Shop@Lunch event on Cyber Monday at the ESPN Zone in Washington, D.C. The event, which encourages consumers to shop online during their lunch hour, will be open to the media and the general public.
