Robinson, Ph.D., assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science at Vanderbilt University, has received a Faculty early Career development (Career) Program award from the National Science Foundation. Vanderbilt reports that dr. robinson’s prestigious NSF Career award will support his work on improving the reliability of integrated circuits and his efforts to recruit and retain students in science and engineering from traditionally underrepresented groups. dr. robinson works with the tennessee Louis Stokes alliance for Minority Participation and coordinates the alfred P. Sloan Foundation Minority Ph.d. program, both at Vanderbilt. He earned a B.Sc. in electrical engineering from historically black Florida a&M University then went to Georgia tech, where he earned an M.Sc. in electrical engineering and a Ph.d. in electrical and computer engineering. Sandra K. Edmonds, of the NSBe Phoenix Metro alumni Chapter, received the Society of Women engineers’ emerging Leader award for demonstrated leadership in Quality, at SWe’s 2008 National Conference, in Baltimore, Md. SWe, a NSBe Strategic Partner, selects women for this honor “who have been actively engaged in an engineering or technology profession with 10 to 15 years of cumulative experience and have demonstrated outstanding technical excellence as an individual resulting in significant accomplishments.” edmonds is the quality and reliability manager for Fab Sort Manufacturing in Intel Corporation’s technology and Manufacturing Group. She has a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University and a master’s from Stanford University, both in electrical engineering. Lamar University has named a 250-seat auditorium at its John Gray Center in honor of NSBe lifetime member Richard L. Price, Ph.D. dr. Price served as associate professor of mathematics at Lamar from 1970 until his retirement in 2006. His past service to NSBe included longtime stints as a chapter advisor at Lamar and as a member of the National advisory Board. He received NSBe’s Golden torch award for Lifetime achievement in academia, at the annual National Convention in 2004. dr. Price “worked hard to attract and help students from underrepresented groups. thanks to contributions like his, Lamar now has a wonderfully diverse educational community,” said Lamar University President James Simmons at the dedication ceremony for the auditorium. dr. Price earned his bachelor’s degree from historically black Prairie View a&M University, his master’s from the University of texas and his doctorate from the ohio State University, all in mathematics. He also has a master’s in religion from the Yale divinity School. Carol W. Jones, of the U.S. army Corps of engineers, Memphis district, has added another first to her resume, with her selection as chief of the Project development Branch and assistant to the deputy district engineer for Project Management. Jones became the first african-american female to work full time as an engineer with the Memphis district, in 1982, and is also the first female to hold her new position. one of the 12 founders of NSBe’s Memphis alumni Chapter, Jones, a native of Memphis, has served in four chapter leadership positions, including president, and was NSBe’s 1997 National alumni Member of the Year.
