Campbell splits her research time between the University of Michigan’s Radiation Laboratory and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. She has published five scholarly papers as the primary author and has given several scholarly talks about her research. She is a NSBE Torchbearer, a GEM Fellow and a Gordon Research Conferences Carl Storm Fellow. In 2007, she was presented with the National GEM Consortium’s Most Promising Ph.D. Fellow in Science Award. Despite her demanding academic schedule, Campbell is deeply involved with the university and the surrounding community. She served as advisor to the vice president of Student Affairs for two years and serves as a peer advisor to first-year graduate students and all GEM Fellows at the University of Michigan. LyDay Senior, Sandra Day O’Connor High School, San Antonio, Texas Alexandra Lyday exemplifies the mission of NSBE. A charter member of the San Antonio City Wide NSBE Jr. Chapter, she has held several leadership roles, including membership chair and financial committee chair, and now serves as chapter vice president. Her work did not go unnoticed, as she was awarded the 2008 Bank of America Student Leadership Internship Award. Alexandra donates a large amount of her time to several community service projects, among them: tutoring for the Duke Talent Identification Program and assisting seventh grade students as they prepared to take the SAT; helping the homeless as part of the Nolan Street Bridge project and organizing free SAT/ ACT review classes for San Antonio area high school students, with her NSBE Jr. chapter. Alexandra also competed on her high school’s junior varsity track team. An accomplished artist, as well, she attended the St. Philips College Fine Arts Academy from 2006 to 2008, for college-level training in the visual arts. Alexandra has a 3.6 grade point average and has taken eight Advanced Placement courses over her high school career. She is a National Venture Scholar and was inducted into the National Society of High School Scholars in 2008. She intends to obtain a degree in biomedical engineering. He was one of only six students selected in 2008 to participate in the highly competitive Rolls-Royce Engineering Pre-College Senior Intern Initiative. During the fall semester of his senior year, he dedicated 15 hours of each week to this work/study program, assisting in the analysis of production acceptance test data in the System Performance and Operability group at Rolls-Royce. Malcolm is also an outstanding athlete in track and field, football, basketball and cross-country and is considered one of the top track athletes in the state.
