Since my days as a NSBE and to know our potential to empower our communities. Each member of NSBE than ever and more focused on the NSBE Mission. ■ is a leader, and we are all responsible for influencing others to realize our shared vision of Academic Excellence and Pipeline Development. NSBE’s success will also depend on our teamwork and shared commitment. Teamwork is essential for any organization’s effectiveness in meeting its goals. In our professional careers, we organize teams to tackle our challenging assignments. NSBE is a team of 30,000-plus students and professionals. Each one of us has a unique strength or skill to contribute to our chapters and our communities. The future of our country’s work force and its development of new ideas and innovations will rely on our ability to inspire and encourage others. As black technical professionals, we have this in common: we were inspired by someone to pursue a standard of excellence, and this pursuit got us to where we are today. All of us have a tremendous responsibility to reflect this encouragement and excitement for our industries back to others, so they can pursue these careers successfully. We can be mentors. We can volunteer at our local NSBE chapters. We can speak at our schools. Whatever the effort we choose, each one of us needs to commit to developing the next generation of engineers. www.nsbe.org • CAREER ENGINEER • Convention 2012 • 105 http://www.nsbe.org
