NYLON - January 2008 - (Page 126) THE BEAUTIFUL ORDINARY In her funny, dirty, sweetly addictive songs, British songstress Kate Nash makes something extraordinary out of the mundane. By Kate Williams. Photographed by Jason Frank Rothenberg Onstage at a show in New York, Kate Nash steps up to the microphone and finds it directly level with the middle of her forehead. “Whoops! I had my shoes on during soundcheck,” she says, giggling, and wiggling her black-stocking-clad toes. It’s a tough crowd, though, and almost no one giggles back. Nash is doing her best not to let it bother her, and with each song, she seems looser and more comfortable. By the end of the show, she’s banging on her keyboard and singing with all the exuberance of a three-year-old with a set of pots and pans. And the crowd can’t help it: They’re cheering her on.
