NYLON - January 2008 - (Page 44) behind the scenes UNDER COVER: MARY-KATE OLSEN Mary-Kate Olsen was not on time for our holiday cover shoot in a natural light studio of Manhattan’s Pier 59––she was actually early. You see, the mogul and burgeoning designer had been very involved with the planning of the shoot, including helping to pick out the photographer and stylist, so she was really excited to be there from the beginning. And her enthusiasm was both apparent and appreciated. After warmly introducing herself to everyone on set, Olsen and stylist Daniella Jung spent time sifting through the copious racks of clothing. Jung, who was nervous at first about dressing someone who is known for having such a strong personal style, was immediately smitten with Olsen and amazed at their similar sensibilities. “Mary-Kate is my celebrity alter ego!” exclaimed Jung. “She is the easiest celebrity I’ve ever styled, because everything she loved, was what I loved. We were laughing by the end of the shoot about how she was the yin to my yang.” The result of their collaboration is an eclectic combination of high, low, and vintage designs mixed together in Olsen’s signature unexpected way. BEAUTY NOTE: Besides being a celebrated style icon, Olsen also happens to be, oh, totally gorgeous. Makeup artist Genevieve emphasized her sauzersize, limpid blue eyes and famous pout, while hair stylist Renato Campora fashioned her long, flaxen hair into easy, loose curls. A manicurist was eschewed because somehow her chipped nails looked just right. FOR HER LOOK TRY: Flawless Liquid Makeup in Nude, Illuminating Highlighter in Shimmer, High Drama Volumizing Mascara in Ultimate Blue Black, Pure Pigment Shadow Sticks in Majestic and Dazzling, Brilliant Shine Lipgloss in Dreamer.
