NYLON - January 2008 - (Page 66) PUFF, DADDY UPSCALE PUFFERS ARE ALL ABOUT SLIMMING DOWN. PHOTOGRAPHED BY JAY HARRISON Puffers have never been sexy. At best, they make you look like you’re headed for the ski slopes. At worst, like Busta Rhymes. And, let’s face it, if you’ve ever donned one any place not even remotely close to a snowcapped mountain, you know that they turn even a waif into a roly-poly, cushioned by tiers of down. Nevertheless, the onset of winter always means wearing things you’d otherwise never be caught dead in for the sake of staying warm, even if the image of a chairlift-bound sumo wrestler is never far from your mind. Thankfully, recent seasons have seen the update of the down puffer, efforts that began with reworked styles from the storied European alpine ski brand, Moncler, and the avant-garde designer, Martin Margiela, and have reached new heights this winter, with the launch of the London-based label, Silver Spoon Attire. In super-luxurious leather, lined with cashmere, and in colors such as deep chestnut and steel gray, Silver Spoon’s reinterpreted puffer jackets and vests sacrifice neither warmth nor elegance; they’re urban, but not street. Says the label’s designer Damian Collins: “I wanted to make sure that whoever wears our jackets on a bustling subway doesn’t take up two seats.” ANDREA CUSICK the observer stylist: naima difranco at igroup, nyc. hair and makeup: hong hyun jeong. model: izabelle at ny models. jacket by silver spoon, t-shirt and jumper by rojas, necklace by dinosaur designs.
