NYLON - January 2008 - (Page 86) CHARM’S WAY Not many designers can inspire lust quite like Dolce and Gabbana. Is a leopard print bustier, a necessity? Absolutely. And now, with the debut of D&G’s first costume jewelry line, we can enjoy a (more) affordable foray into splashy displays of luxury with a whimsical edge. From baubles to chains, dog tags to charms, the best part about the D&G pieces is the logo emblazoned on every item. Stefano and Domenico, we get it. And we love it. NATALIE TOREN Available at D&G boutiques. bookmark: funkytown British photographer Dean Freeman—best known for his portraits of the Spice Girls and David Beckham—has cast his net a bit wider with Funkytown (Damiani), a collection of photojournalism and celebrity photography spanning his 27-year career. Moving beyond the U.K., Funkytown creates an imaginary someplace between Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Europe—a world in which typical boundaries become irrelevant, where there is a close proximity between Notting Hill and Benin, Tom Stoppard and Geri Halliwell, parties in Rio and Christmas in India. Freeman captures a sense of urgency and immediacy, creating a need to look and see his images. His photography has a sense of humor and an appreciation for the absurd, but where Freeman truly excels is in detecting the beauty that extends beyond time and place. EBONI BOOTH BLUE PERIOD It makes you “look like you had a really good one-night stand,” says New York-based designer Thakoon Panichgul of this cobalt blue, slouchy-fit knit dress from his first resort collection, which was unveiled this season. Since his highly lauded debut in 2004, Panichgul—a former Harper’s Bazaar editor— has proved himself much more than a one-hit wonder, consistently turning out innovative collections that have become highlights of New York Fashion Week, as well as shoe collaborations with Manolo Blahnik and Nine West. Panichgul describes his resort line as “Africa on acid”—translation: safari-style trench coats, tribal prints, and electro-pop colors. He will be headed to no such place, however, for the holidays, which he plans to spend in Des Moines with his brother, “playing euchre”—yes, the card game.
