NYLON - January 2009 - (Page 66) What happens when you mix a seminal womenswear designer with an ultra-hip denim brand? For starters, a collection that exudes a sophisticated coolness. So it should come as no surprise that a collaboration between Stockholm-based line ACNE and Lanvin maestro Alber Elbaz expertly uses workwear fabrics to mix masculine and feminine silhouettes. “When I first met with Alber, he was talking about denim with such love. He said that denim is like perfume: you never throw it away, you keep it and treasure it,’’ says ACNE’s creative director, Jonny Johansson. “What I found inspiring in this collaboration was working with the street element of denim and the couture shaping of Lanvin.” Influenced by the lightness and fluidity of Lanvin and the rebellious aesthetic of ACNE, the collection uses a dark indigo hue and fabrics sourced from Italy and Japan. This collaboration is more than just another luxury denim line. ACNE/Lanvin has a simple and effortless vibe relying on the fabric’s pure, inherent beauty. The collection—which will be an annual creative effort—includes tuxedo jackets, shirtdresses, bags, and a traditional belted trench. Make no mistake, this collection is not a secondary line. It will be available at all Lanvin and ACNE flagship stores, just in time for the holidays.
