NYLON - February 2008 - (Page 22) letter from the editor BRITISH INVASION One of the cool things about working at NYLON is that you can literally come up with an idea and make it happen immediately. In one editorial meeting this past fall, we noticed how many British bands and fashion designers we were planning to cover in the coming months, and I said, “Why don’t we all go over to London and do the February issue from there?” Two weeks later, we were getting off a plane at Heathrow. While there, we set out to document London as it is now—to discover what’s impacting the people who live there, and gauge exactly what it is that’s making it such an exciting place to be. Something I found particularly interesting is that so many of the city’s creatives—whether designers or artists or musicians—are citing the heyday of ’60s-era London as a major influence, and a similar atmosphere of cultural freedom and energy really does prevail today. I think our cover stars the Kills definitely have that spirit— and as they have always been a favorite at NYLON, it was fortunate for us that they happen to have a new record coming out next month. Since this is our first issue of 2008, we wanted to do something really special, and I believe that we have. MARVIN SCOTT JARRETT, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF photograph by stephen walker
