NYLON - March 2009 - (Page 60) behind the scenes under cover: kristen stewart Ever since Twilight put her in the spotlight, Kristen Stewart has proved herself something of a rebellious spirit. Such was the inspiration for the creative team who worked with her for this issue’s cover story—shot by NYLON editor-in-chief Marvin Scott Jarrett at Pier 59 Studios in Santa Monica. Stylist Cher Coulter had an especially daring Christopher Kane “gorilla” dress in mind. “It was my favorite of the season, and I thought with her dark hair and pale skin it would look amazing,” says Coulter. “The look on peoples’ faces when they saw it was perfection!” Stewart also wore pieces from Diesel, Louis Vuitton, House of Holland, Alexander Wang, and a pair of Nikes that she liked so much she took them home with her. Makeup artist Jillian Dempsey, who has worked with Stewart in the past, is a fan of the starlet’s distinctive features. “I love her face—it is so unique and an incredible canvas to ‘do’ eyes on,” says Dempsey. “She’s also easygoing and just a cool girl to work with.” beauty note: “I wanted the eyes to be lined for a strong look,” explains Dempsey of Stewart’s bad-girl look. “I paired it with a stained, bright—almost a little trashy—lip color.” Mascara and a touch of blush take the makeup’s severity down a notch. for her look try: Powder Blush in Pink Swoon, Eye Kohl in Smolder, Lipstick in See Sheer, Plush Lash in Plush Black, and Eye Shadow in Shroom.
