NYLON - April 2009 - (Page 126) girl talk The advent of cell phones has robbed us of the satisfaction of pacing while talking and slamming down a receiver in anger. And while checking your bank balance is infinitely easier with a touchtone keypad, we’re still nostalgic for the days when it took a little work to dial the right number, and when it was impossible to tell who might be on the other end of an incoming call. Just as worthy of reminiscence as the rotary phone is the era when blush was called rouge and was rubbed generously to the apples of the cheeks, and sometimes on lips as well. By the 1920s, the rosy cheek had lost its negative connotation (outdoor work), and started to imply health and leisure. So go ahead: Reach out and blush someone. photographed by poppy de villeneuve -ZOOEY DESCHANEL, october 2008
