NYLON - May 2008 - (Page 94) 1 3 GET INSPIRED BY THESE LOOKS CREATED BY M.A.C AND BUMBLE AND BUMBLE FOR PARIS FASHION WEEK. BY RETNA WOLLER. ILLUSTRATIONS BY LISA GRUE 1. WARRIOR PRINCESS War paint is a surefire way to get a message across. For bold statements, look no further than British punk revolutionary Vivienne Westwood, who dressed her models in stilts, slogan tees, and printed fabrics that had been worked on by pre-school children. This, teamed with tribal-style makeup, brought out the regal warrior princess in each model. No makeup guides were needed for this show, which was impromptu artistry at its best. M.A.C key artist Pep Gay used all shades of M.A.C PRO Chromacake and M.A.C PRO Pigments, mixed with M.A.C PRO Face and Body Mixing Medium to achieve the outrageous looks. 2. FULL PLAIT Perfect for the multi-tasking girl who wants hair kept off their face, this is an urban twist on the traditional ponytail. At Veronique Branquinho, Bumble and bumble’s Jimmy Paul used B&B Prep to weave loose cornrows, ending in a low, dead-straight ponytail. Paul suggested braiding the hair when damp and adding B&B Shine to the ponytail after straightening. And he couldn’t stress enough how much he loves his favorite product, “I use Prep on every single girl I work with, it’s a must.” 3. SMOKEY BANDIT There is nothing quite as hot as the doe-eyed, justgot-out-of-bed look. Runway styles at Viktor & Rolf, Karl Lagerfield, and Jean Paul Gaultier proved that when smoke does get in your eyes, it produces pure sex. Emmanuel Sammartino, key artist for Karl Lagerfield, based his makeup color choices on the collection, which featured night blues and dark grays. M.A.C Eye Pencil in Indigo was used to line the top and bottom lash lines and was flicked up at the outer corners of the eyes. M.A.C Eye Shadow in Contrast was used to fill in the lids from lash line to socket. Next, Eye Shadow in Vanilla was blended in, and brushed up to the brow to soften the eye. M.A.C PRO Lash Mascara in Coal Black was swept onto the top and bottom lashes, and brows were combed. 2 4 4. SUCK MY KISS For Chloé, makeup looks are usually part Lisbon sisters from The Virgin Suicides, part librarian who lets her hair down. This season was no different with minimal eye makeup and a fresh, light base that is simple and easy to apply. M.A.C key artist Lucia Peroni wanted the girl’s lips to look like they had been sucking on a lollipop. This was accomplished by first lightly exfoliating and conditioning the girls’ lips, then staining the center with Night Moth lip pencil. The stain is then worked through to the ends and outer lip with brush #231. 5. (NOT SO) LOUD MOUTH Those that don’t like to fuss around with lip liner, lip color, and re-applying product will be glad to know that the nude lip took to the Parisian catwalks like fromage Raman wanted the women to look powerful, yet feminine. M.A.C PRO Lip Erase was applied to the lips, followed by M.A.C Lipglass in Clear, patted on top. 55
