NYLON - August 2008 - (Page 52) behind the scenes UNDERCOVER: MISCHA BARTON Take one part Barbarella, add a touch of ’90s-era Kate Moss, and finish with a generous serving of photographer Sam Haskin’s legendary “Cowboy Kate” image series, and you have the recipe that stylist team Anda and Masha used as inspiration for NYLON’s August denim issue cover starring the oh-so-lovely Mischa Barton. “There is something so naturally ’60s about Mischa,” explains Anda, “so some kind of ’60s denim direction just felt right.” Barton was all for it, not even batting an eye when photographer Taki Bibelas suggested that she lose her top for some of the shots—“she lives in Paris so she doesn’t really care,” says Anda—though her mom did keep a close watch. Of the clothes she did don for the shoot, Barton was especially fond of the Swiss cheese-style Ksubi tee, a vintage Levi’s vest, and the NYLON Jewelry necklaces. BEAUTY NOTE: Barton’s hair and makeup, much like the clothing, was a nod to the Swinging ’60s. Her thicklylined lids and nude lip, plus the tousled, blonde waves and heavy eye-grazing fringe recall a young Jean Shrimpton. FOR HER LOOK TRY: Infinite Matte Oil Free Foundation in Cream, Subliminal Purity Mineral Based Loose Powder in Ivory, Electric Edge Liquid Eyeliner in Electric Black, True Lashes Volumizing Mascara in Black Lashes, and Delicious Luxury Crème Lipstick in Oasis.
