NYLON - August 2008 - (Page 54) contributors m egan w h itm a r sh “At the moment I am making mountains of handmade soft sculpture jewelry for upcoming shows in Hong Kong and Los Angeles,” says California-based artist Megan Whitmarsh. “A quick way to describe it: late Lynda Benglis and early Claes Oldenburg meets the Muppets.” Since having earned a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA from the University of New Orleans, Whitworth has produced artwork for Herman Miller, Traffic Records (Japan), and the New York Times Magazine—and now NYLON. “I have very strong arms from sewing all the time!” She says. And for Counter Culture (page 108) Whitworth put her sewing skills to the test by creating beauty product sculptures, complete with detailed labels, that would look more at home in a gallery space than on a bathroom shelf. m ol l y w i l l i a m s Wearing her favorite Calvin Klein cut-off denim shorts, NYLON’s fashion assistant Molly Williams makes a pretty appearance in this month’s denim issue (see page 64). But usually she’s working behind the camera, simultaneously prepping for multiple fashion shoots and managing her troop of interns. “A big part of my day is spent handling all the samples that come in and out and, ooohhh, there are a lot,” she says. Born in California, brought up in Miami and Texas, Williams then moved to New York to study at FIT. “The only thing I hate about New York are the winters, I do not handle cold weather well!” Her love for fashion design brought her to intern at NYLON and after six months she was hired. When not surrounded by samples, Williams loves to shop, people-watch, wear ridiculous heels, and hang out with her cat—aptly named Twiggy. taki bi bel as Taki Bibelas never watched The O.C. and didn’t know too much about our cover star Mischa Barton before shooting her but he had a definite vision in mind. “I saw an old picture of Marianne Faithfull on a motorbike taken in the ’60s, and knew I wanted to try and capture that look,” he says. When Bibelas isn’t shooting for NYLON, Italian Marie Claire, Vogue Pelle, Amusement, or French Playboy, the Paris-based photographer loves to surf and is currently preparing for a surfing exhibition in Germany. “I had three childhood dreams,” he says. “To be a photographer, a race-car driver, and a drummer. I tried them all and liked photography the best. It was also the safest and quietest.” anda & m a sh a New York-based styling duo Anda & Masha are used to working with high-profile clients from Sienna Miller to Alicia Keyes, and for this issue they added Mischa Barton to their lengthy list. “We aimed for a Cowboy Kate (one of our favorite photography books) look with different styles of denim, while keeping it young with a ’60s feel,” says Masha. “Mischa was cute and sweet and she moved great, which is always good!” The duo met while Anda was a designer for Tommy Hilfiger and realized fashion could be more fun as a stylist. “Masha and I have very individual styles and ways of working—I am more organized and get more done and Masha has a more natural approach.” The girls also style for Black Book, T Magazine, Elle, and runway shows for Alice + Olivia. “We have a great synergy that allows us to pick up where the other one left off; its like finishing someone’s sentences,” says Anda.
