NYLON - August 2008 - (Page 68) In recent years ‘premium denim’ has come to incapsulate all sorts of jean experiments, with companies all over the world contributing their expensive offerings. But, before all of these brands were peddling their fancy dungarees with detailed stitching, there was Diesel. Diesel was among the first on the premium denim scene with their softer, hand-finished washes and well-worn, sometimes dirty, industrial jeans. Over the years, they have expanded to include 55DSL and Diesel Denim Gallery, and this year sees the launch of their new luxury line Black Gold. “Diesel Black Gold is an exclusive collection dedicated to those looking for the unpredictable Diesel spirit blended with a sophisticated individual style,” says Renzo Rosso, president and founder of Diesel. Black Gold may be the newest Diesel collection to capture people’s attention, but much of the brand’s success lies in sticking to their original intention—keeping premium denim casual—like the washed-out, semi-tattered ’80s style shown here. One thing is for sure: Diesel is in no hurry to fade away.
