VOLCOM STORE, NEW YORK Costa Mesa import Volcom is bringing its cool aesthetic to New York by opening its first store on the East Coast this month. The snow, skate, and surfboard aficionados—whose easy-breezy garb sells everywhere from Santa Barbara to South Africa—have been creating a colorful array of beachwear, boards, and sporty accessories since 1991, when Richard “Wooly” Woolcott and Tucker “T-Dawg” Hall set out on a snowboard trip-turned-obsession. The store will also include an art gallery and will offer limited-edition collections from the Stone Age line. In keeping with their “Youth Against Establishment” philosophy, get ready to rock slouchy knits, black-andwhite checkered totes, and graphic hoodies this fall. STORMY WEATHER Alexander Wang is making sure that you never have to experience heavy, soggy jeans after getting caught in the rain (or making a spontaneous snow angel) ever again. Denim has played an integral part in Wang’s past collections, and this time he partnered with Cotton Brand to create his breathable, water-proof, storm-washed denim jeans, which protect from the cold and damp. “The industry has seen water-repellent denim finishes before, but it’s usually applied in fabric form which has its limitations, so we do it in garment-form which means the finish is applied last, creating more benefits,”says David Early, of Cotton Incorporated. Wang’s flare jean, with its long, risqué zipper—which goes from front to back—low waistline, and stretchy ’70s inspired look, is the first jean to implement the storm denim wash. “Waterproof jeans,” exclaims Wang, “is there anything more to say?” RAJNI LUCIENNE JACQUES For more information, see alexanderwang.com. B GENERATION Within moments of meeting my freshman year college roommate, it became clear that our miniscule closet space would showcase a citymouse/country-mouse divide. She loved floaty dresses and chunky knit cardigans. I wore angular blazers and pointed-toe pumps But by mid-semester, we were swapping to create a complete day-to-night wardrobe, a synergy not unlike that in Max Azria’s new line, BCBGeneration. Demarcated into two distinct collections, Casual and City, BCBGeneration encapsulates a youthful, effortless, sensibility. Casual consists of easy, oversized sweaters, skinny jeans, and loose tops, while City offers streamlined little black cocktail dresses, tailored blazers, and the perfect short-sleeved trench coat. Best of all, everything is reasonably priced, so you can afford to play both roles. NATALIE TOREN BCBGeneration is available at Bloomingdales, Nordstrom and Macy’s. http://up-ltd.com http://volcom.com http://alexanderwang.com
