NYLON Magazine - September 2007 - (Page 42) letter from the editor COME TOGETHER When Evan Rachel Wood first appeared on the cover of NYLON, she was 17 years old, and even though she came across in the interview as being incredibly mature, she still looked like a jeans-and-hoodie-wearing teenager. In the two-and-a-half years that have passed since then, Wood has gone through quite a transformation: Now she’s grown up, dressing up, and dating Marilyn Manson. Something I remember clearly from that first photo shoot, though, is how into music she was—and that hasn’t changed. Then, she brought her own iPod to the studio, and when I photographed her for this cover, she played DJ by going through the selection of music that was on my laptop: we ended up listening to everything from Depeche Mode to Elliott Smith to, of course, Manson’s new album. It’s cool, and appropriate, that an actress who is such a music aficionado has ended up playing the lead (and singing) in the upcoming Beatles-inspired movie Across the Universe. As this is our annual Fall Fashion issue, it’s also packed with all kinds of stuff to get you excited about the change of season—the latest designers, accessories, makeup, you name it. This issue also marks the debut of our new fashion features director, Jenny Feldman, who had a great idea for a regular feature called Cult Of, in which we’ll take a look at brands that have devoted fan followings. This month, we kick off with awesome French label A.P.C. (check it out on page 72).
