TIDALTV MANIATV The “first online television network” and the birthplace of Dave Navarro’s Spread TV. Welcome to NYLON’s first TV Issue. Television has changed so much in the last few years— from iPods to TiVo, technology has revolutionized the way we watch our favorite shows; and the programming itself has just gotten better and better—that people are watching and talking about it more than ever before. For the first time in NYLON ’s history, we felt that TV had become as relevant as music, so we got really excited about the idea of devoting an entire issue to it. There’s a lot of anticipation and interest surrounding the new 90210, and I had a great time photographing its three lead actresses (Jessica Stroup, AnnaLynne McCord, and Shenae Grimes) for the cover story (page 170). I also hung out on set with Mark (the Cobrasnake) Hunter and Cory Kennedy when they filmed their guest spots for the show, and it struck me that the creators really have a handle on what L.A. youth culture is all about right now. It’s definitely going to be big news. Speaking of which, check out the portfolio of actors from the best shows on the fall lineup—both returning, like 30 Rock, and new, like True Blood. Let us know what you think of our choices, and we’ll try to get back to you… if we’re not too busy watching TV. When you’re done reading this issue (it’s a big one), be sure to tune into our new iTunes podcast: Just search for NYLON TV in iTunes, subscribe, and enjoy MARVIN SCOTT JARRETT, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF BABELGUM Another “new global Internet television network,” this time with Spike Lee hosting a wellpublicized online film festival. CURRENT TV The website is like a handier, on-demand mini-version of Al Gore’s cable news channel, as well as a portal for uploading viewer-created content. ZATTOO Tragically this only works in Europe, but if you’re there, it’s a veritable smorgasbord of TV—Aprende Ingles TV, anyone? MYSPACE TV The social-networking site to end all others extends its media domination to online video.
