NYLON - October 2007 - (Page 46) MIKAELA BECKWITH, DECADESTWO, L.A. How did you become a buyer? Originally, I was a DecadesTwo customer. It was my favorite store so I worked my way up from shopgirl. I think I have a knack for finding great pieces because I know the customer so well: I am the customer! Top celebrity clients? I love working with Selma Blair. She has a great eye and it doesn’t take her long to zero in on the perfect piece. I have to say this store is like crack; our clients are addicted and always find ways to make it in. Guilty pleasures? Forever 21! What do you do in your spare time? Well, I do theater and commercials. I’m also working on my own luxury lifestyle line. Where do you wind-down after work? Jones Bar in Santa Monica. For more information, see decadestwo.com. HEY, BIG SPENDERS JILL BRADSHAW, I HEART, NYC Favorite labels? Lonely Hearts from New Zealand has a really fresh take on fashion, and Tsumori Chisato is always amazing— anyone who can pull off one of her colorful pieces is really an I Heart girl. Any items you buy in multiples? Plain white, long T-shirts and tank tops. Describe a typical workday? I really run every aspect of the shop, from the buying to managing, to being on the floor. I think it’s important to work in the store in order to get a better feel for what my customers like. Favorite perks of the job? Being able to order myself all the clothing I Heart carries.
