Nylon - October 2008 - (Page 24) Welcome to our second annual It Girl issue. We got such a great response from you last year that we decided to do it again, and we couldn’t think of a more appropriate cover girl than Zooey Deschanel. Besides her acting, I’ve been really excited by the music she’s been doing with M. Ward as She & Him. She has managed to make her retro-inspired songs sound completely of the moment. And that’s the best part about Zooey—she is always doing her own thing without caring what other people think, which may be the most definitive quality of an It Girl (along with awesome style, of course). We’ve got lots of other cool girls in this issue—if you haven’t met Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe or Teyana Taylor yet, turn to page 126 now—and, as always, the most exciting fashion and music (or both mixed together, like M.I.A.’s new clothing line). I also hope you’ve been checking out our NYLON TV segments hosted by the amazing Cory Kennedy and Peaches Geldof (who are also both in this issue). I first met Peaches in London when she interviewed me for MTV Europe, and I just thought she was the best interviewer, ever—I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to share her wit with you…and don’t be surprised to see a column from her in the magazine later this fall.
